RDA Ignores Risky Climate, Launches New Home, Health Titles

Reader’s Digest Association is launching two new titles, the first to come from new CEO Mary Berner.

The first, launching Jan. 6, is titled Best You, while Fresh Home will appear Feb. 24, writes Mediaweek.

Best You is modeled after the RDA titled launched in Canada in March, Best Health. Fresh Home is a takeoff of RDA’s Australian title, The Family Handyman. The titles will have a standard trim size and a cover price of $4.99.

The announcement comes as Audit Bureau of Circulations figures show a decline in magazine newsstand sales of 6.3 percent in the first half of 2008. RDA’s flagship magazine, Reader’s Digest, is struggling, with ad pages down 11.7 percent through August and newsstand sales down 10.6 percent. Ad pages in shelter and women’s health/fitness books are down 5.5 percent and 5 percent in ad pages for the first half of the year, respectively.
