HuffPo Expands to Windy City

Chicago will boast its own edition of the Huffington Post, starting tomorrow (Thursday) at midday. The site will feature local news, commentary, features and personal reflections.

Arianna Huffington says HuffPo could expand to 10 to 20 more sites within a couple of years, writes the Chicago Tribune.

Willow Bay, former Good Morning America weekend co-host and wife of Walt Disney boss Bob Iger, is the Huffington Post’s editor-at-large overseeing the local rollouts. She calls the Chicago site a work in progress, saying, “I’m always surprised, which is part of the fun of what we do, but there will be a ton of news and politics writers. There will be food, because it’s one of the great food cities in the country, and certainly sports. We have a bunch of environmental writers because Chicago [wants] to be a leader in growing its green economy.”

The site’s writers will work mainly for free, with just one paid staffer - Ben Goldberger, a former Chicago Sun-Times writer. Ad sales will be handled from Huffington’s office in New York.
