SpotRunner, the cheeky startup that helps businesses develop and run their ads across TV and radio, has fired at least 50 employees, amidst rumors that the company is struggling.
One source, who wrote to Agency Spy, said the troubles are not financial, but rather that it is “the greed that the owners of this company are getting into that will ruin this ‘once upon a time nice startup.’”
As late as last week, a SpotRunner spokesperson defended the company’s financial situation, pointing out the $51 million the company recently pulled from investors.
SpotRunner is said to be reorganizing, which could be the reason behind the firings. It will be split into three divisions, one for media platforms, one for national marketing services and one for local marketing services.
The company faces competition from Google, which has launched a similar media buying system.
