The syndicated Bonnie Hunt Show, from the little-known actress-comedian, debuts today (Monday), and it is one of the few shows in syndication that media buyers are optimistic about, writes Media Life.
The show is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, the syndicator behind the enormously popular Ellen DeGeneres, which is one reason for the optimism. “What they were able to do with Ellen, and what they might be able to do with Bonnie, is produce to her strength, and her strength is that she has a great sense of humor,” says Bill Carroll, vp and director of programming at Katz Television Group. “She comes across as accessible.”
Hunt has improvisational experience from two (failed) sitcoms and years as a Second City performer. Her show will feature celebrities and “regular” people with extraordinary talents or stories to tell.
The Bonnie Hunt Show is one of two new talk shows debuting this fall. The other is a spin-off of Dr. Phil, being produced by his son. The Doctors stars a panel of physicians, including a pediatrician, a plastic surgeon and an OB-GYN.
