Offices of Murdoch’s News Outdoor Russia Raided by Investigators

Investigators raided the offices and production facilities belonging to Rupert Murdoch’s News Outdoor Russia yesterday, as part of an investigation into negligence charges against the first deputy chairman of the Moscow committee for advertising and information.

News Outdoor Russia, the largest outdoor company in the nation, does not face any charges, according to a spokeswoman for the company (via the Guardian), who said that the search was entirely related to the investigation of the advertising committee official.

The offices of the committee for advertising and information were also searched.

News Outdoor Russia was accused in June of receiving illegal discounts on billboard advertising in Moscow from the advertising committee, but the city of Moscow’s appeal for damages were dismissed at two Moscow courts in July.

The company says the raid paralyzed the firm’s operations, and added that substantial damage has been done to its reputation.

News Outdoor Russia has more than 36,000 ad sites in 90 cities.

Last summer, Murdoch was said to be exploring a partial sale of News Outdoor Russia because of concerns over a strict new law that could prohibit a single company from controlling more than 35 percent of a municipality’s ad space.

News Outdoor controls more than 50 percent of Russia market share, and as much as 90 percent in some cities.
