Chicago Tribune Cuts 12 in Newsroom

Next in the long list of companies cutting jobs comes Tribune Co., which is slicing positions at The Chicago Tribune.

About 12 employees at the Trib were given the rest of the week to clean out their desks; more cuts are expected next month, writes Chicago Business.

The Tribune has been slicing away at newsroom staff for more than a year; this week’s layoffs follow 100 job cuts that took place in the spring and another 80 that were cut in August.

In October, Gannett said it would cut 10% of its work force across all of its papers, excluding USA Today. The AP is also cutting 10% of its work force.

Announcements of some 30,000 layoffs have hit the market in the last day as economic woes mount, according to Dow Jones.
