NYC Bus Ads Target by Block, Zip Code and Time of Day

Published on October 23, 2008

Titan Worldwide has launched digital ads on the sides of New York City buses which can be programmed to target different neighborhoods, based on the location of the buses.

Ads resemble TV commercials, according to CBS. Titan has a 10-year, $800 million contract to sell ads on the city’s bus and commuter-train systems.

Titan Worldwide’s digital signs across its bus, rail and subway portfolio are being rolled out in key U.S. markets and in London, with Ireland and Canada soon to follow, according to the company. Titan is investing $90 million in digital signage over the next 36 months.

The digital bus ads are 12-foot displays that use LED and GPS technology. They enable advertisers to target mass audiences by time of day, block, zip code, demography and ethnicity, says Titan. Trials are underway in Chicago as well as New York.

Manhattan plans to roll out the system on 200 buses in the first quarter of next year.
