Satirical ‘Onion’ Sets Free Straight-Shooter ‘Decider’

Published on August 27, 2008 | Email this article

The Onion has launched a local site that will provide event listings and restaurant information for Chicago - in essence, a competitor to CitySearch.

More cities will be unveiled in coming months, writes TechCrunch.

The site, Decider, is a “straight” site, without the satire and humor that The Onion is known for, though TechCrunch points out that The Onion has long included legitimate local reviews and events calendars.

Decider faces stiff competition. In addition to CitySearch and Yelp, mtvU announced yesterday that it has launched a series of 25 local sites available to students at individual U.S. colleges. The mtvU sites, known as Campus Daily Guides, offer local entertainment listings, including restaurants, nightlife, sporting events, concerts and movies.
