Centro Consolidates Local Media Buying Services

Centro, which provides online media planning and buying software, has purchased Real Cities, one of the largest online newspaper buying services, from McClatchy.

With the acquisition, Centro broadens the distribution of its local media buying software platform among agencies, the company says. Peter Krasilovsky, program director of the marketplaces program for The Kelsey Group - a research firm based in Princeton, New Jersey - says the acquisition should help more agencies buy local media and should expand the local marketplace.

The transaction closed on August 12, 2008. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
