‘New York Times’ Jacks Newsstand Price to $1.50

The New York Times will increase the newsstand price of its Monday-Saturday editions to $1.50, effective Aug. 18. The current price is $1.25.

The Sunday Times will continue to sell for $4 at the newsstand in New York metropolitan areas, writes the AP. The Times last increased its cover price a year ago, from $1 to $1.25.

The Wall Street Journal announced last week that it would boost its cover price by 50 cents, to $2, beginning July 28. The WSJ’s last increase was also last year, when it went from $1 to $1.50

Newspaper companies are struggling to increase profits in the face of declining advertising revenue and slipping circulation numbers.
