WSJ.com Reaches Audience High, Site Traffic Nearly Doubles for June

Published on July 03, 2008 | Email this article

WSJ.com’s traffic soared an impressive 94 percent in June compared to the same month last year, according to the company’s internal traffic numbers.

Total page views ballooned 45 percent, to 150 million, compared to the same month last year, writes Mediaweek. June was the fourth month this year to reach a new audience high, WSJ.com execs said.

Speculation was high in the last year - since the Wall Street Journal’s parent company, Dow Jones, was acquired by News Corp. - that Rupert Murdoch would jettison the paid-subscription model of WSJ.com. Though Murdoch himself played along with the rumors, saying that he could increase advertising revenue by boosting readership through a free model, he eventually decided to keep the paid model intact. The site does now offer free access to all editorials and op-ed pieces.
