Feisty Bronx Paper Sold To Richner Communications

Published on June 04, 2008 | Email this article

The Riverdale Press, a small weekly with a smart reputation for serious journalism published by two generations of the same family, has been sold - following decades of turning down offers.

The publication has been sold to Richner Communications, publisher of the Herald community newspapers in Nassau County and several other small publications, according to The New York Times.

The paper, which maintains a fiercely liberal slant and has a circulation of about 10,000, won a Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for its editorials by one of the owners, Bernard Stein.

The entire staff will remain onboard, and the other owner, Richard Stein, says he will remain on for at least a year to advise Richner.
