Mexico Authorizes HD Radio Near Border

Published on May 21, 2008 | Email this article

Mexico has authorized radio stations within about 200 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border to begin broadcasting in HD Radio, according to Radio Ink.

The approval was given so that stations near the border can transmit “at the same technological level” as U.S. HD stations.

Stations that want to transmit in HD must ask the Federal Telecommunications Commission for authorization, and must agree to help the agency study the technology.
