Congdon Stages Web Return with ‘Sometimes Daily’

Published on May 19, 2008 | Email this article

One of the web’s first video darlings, Amanda Congdon of Rocketboom fame, returns to her roots with Sometimes Daily, an “interactive variety show that is embedded into my life,” Congdon says.

Congdon abandoned Rocketboom, one of the first web video series to become a hit, in 2006, having joined ABC News to produce newscasts with her own eccentric brand of humor. However, she clashed with the culture there and left quietly last fall, according to The New York Times.

She also had a development deal with HBO, but nothing came of it.

The segments of Sometimes Daily - a show being produced by independent production studio Media Rights Capital - will be based on a weekly theme. Congdon hopes to “reinvent” the video blog format and to see if she can reconnect with former Rocketboom fans.

Congdon may have an uphill battle. Two years ago, her quick wit helped her stand out amid scads of upstart online video shows, writes CNet, which adds, “Now, is there any online news program without a comely, wise-cracking young anchorwoman?”
