‘BBC-ness’ of New Magazine to Appeal to Americans

Published on May 14, 2008 | Email this article

BBC Worldwide plans to launch BBC Knowledge - its first magazine in the U.S. - in August, with an initial print run of 85,000.

The magazine hopes to capitalize on the strength of the BBC brand in the U.S. “While the content will feed American interests, the Britishness and BBC-ness of the magazine are seen as being key assets, offering consumers a fresh alternative to what is currently on the market,” says BBC Magazines’ publishing director Andy Benham (via Folio).

The magazine will be published six times a year, and will feature stories about history, nature and science. Cover price will be $5.99 and will be available on newsstands and by subscription.

BBC Worldwide is the commercial arm of the BBC.
