Gas consumers across the country increasingly have something to occupy their time beyond fuming about rising fuel prices as they pump gas. Three companies are now offering news and entertainment at the pump.

PumpTop TV claims a network of 550 gas stations, and is expanding quickly, installing displays on an average of four new stations a day, according to Adtek Media, owner of PumpTop TV.

By the end of the year, the network will boast 1,100 gas stations, reaching 100 million gas consumers per month, according to MediaPost. The network, which will have stations in most of the top media markets, has a deal with ABC News Now for national news. It will also offer a mix of local, entertainment and business news, sports scores and weather updates.

PumpTop TV also has a deal with Google for interactive search, which means consumers can hunt for nearby businesses and even print out directions.

PumpTop TV competitor Gas Station TV currently includes 5,000 screens in 375 cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, Houston, Atlanta and Boston. It currently reaches about 30 million gas consumers per month, and is expanding to within gas station convenience stores to increase ad exposure. Gas Station TV has partnered with CBS News.

NBC is offering news and entertainment content to a third in the space, FuelCast Network.
