Randi Rhodes Ditches Air America after Suspension

Published on April 11, 2008 | Email this article

Left-of-center Talk host Randi Rhodes is leaving Air America for smaller, liberal start-up radio network Nova M.

Rhodes was recently suspended by Air America for abusive and obscene language regarding Hilary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro, according to Mediaweek. The comments came during a public appearance sponsored by AAR affiliate, KKGN-AM, Clear Channel’s progressive talk station.

The comments, including a joke in which Rhodes called Clinton and Ferraro “whores,” were not made on the air, but a video of her standup routine circulated online, writes the AP.

Following her suspension, she informed Air America that she was terminating her employment with the network, which is now hunting for a new afternoon drive host.

Almost exactly a year ago, shock jock Don Imus was suspended - and eventually fired - by CBS, after making ill-considered remarks about the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team on the air. He eventually returned to the airwaves on WABC in New York.
