Discovery Upfront: ‘Dark Days in Monkey City’

At its upfront on Tuesday in L.A., Discovery Communications shared details of its new Planet Green network, which will air June 4.

The network will include shows anchored by an eclectic mix of celebrities, writes Mediaweek, including: Entourage star Adrian Grenier, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, rapper Ludacris, Tom Brokaw, and game show host Tom Bergeron, among others.

Discovery also announced its upcoming slates for its other networks. TLC will include a series called Expeditions with Josh Bernstein, the former History Channel explorer who joined Discovery last year, Prototype This!, a show that will pit inventors against engineers, and Iditarod, an inside look at the world-famous sled-dog race. The network will also air plenty of specials, including Inside Planet Earth, a look into the mysteries of the earth’s secrets.

Animal Planet plans a series called Dark Days in Monkey City, blending live action and animation to show the plight of the endangered Sri Lankan Toque Macaque, and another called Dogs! Cats!

Discovery also aired clips of shows from Travel Channel, Science Channel, Military Channel, Discovery I.D., the future Oprah Winfrey network, and more.  Discovery’s New York upfront presentation will take place on April 23.
