Hearst Distributes Ads via Widget

Published on March 04, 2008 | Email this article

Widgets have become increasingly popular as a tool for publishers to distribute content, and Hearst Magazines is hopping on the bandwagon with widgets for its TheDailyGreen.com and Seventeen magazine websites.

Hearst Magazines Digital Media has partnered with Clearspring to develop the widgets, which will allow users to embed them into social networks like Facebook and My Space, aggregators like iGoogle, NetVibes and Windows Live, and blog platforms like Blogger and TypePad.

The widgets will include referral links back to Hearst Magazines Digital Media websites as well as advertising units. Clearspring has created the widgets so that they can be easily re-skinned and programmed for other Hearst Magazines websites and then distributed via Clearspring’s platform. Future widget applications will include eCard widgets, quiz widgets and video widgets.
