Clinton Books One Hour on the Hallmark Channel

Published on February 01, 2008 | Email this article

The Clinton campaign has bought an hour on the Hallmark Channel for the evening of Feb. 4, the night before Super Tuesday, to air part of its Voices Across America national town hall.

The first hour of the 90-minute town hall will air, live, at 9 p.m. ET, writes the Hollywood Reporter. The extra 30 minutes will also be available on the internet and at 21 live events across the country.

With more than 20 states participating in the Super Tuesday vote, industry watchers had speculated that some candidates would boost their local buys with spend in the national arena.

No details on what the Clinton campaign paid for the hour were released.

Representative Anthony D. Weiner, a Democrat who represents parts of Queens and Brooklyn and is a supporter of Mrs. Clinton, said on a conference call with reporters (via the New York Observer) that Hallmark was chosen to “point out that the hallmark of the Clinton campaign is to focus on the substance and the challenges that we have in the four years ahead. To point out that the hallmark of this campaign is using technology to reach voters is to bring them into the process as much as possible, and to point out that the hallmark of this campaign is to make decisions based on who will be ready to govern on Day One.”

As Sewell Chan wrote in a New York Times blog, it was impossible to tell if Weiner said this with a straight face.
