Digital TV Viewers Get Phone Capabilities; Ad Opps Abound

Published on October 16, 2007 | Email this article

Digital TV viewers can now make and receive telephone calls via their television thanks to a new service from digital TV firm Waterfront, according to Net Imperative.

The service will allow program creators, broadcasters and advertisers to create direct voice contact with viewers via a press button on the viewer’s remote control. Possible manifestations of the service could include new ways to compete in game shows, and “call me back” options to be placed within TV shows and advertisements.

“Now these organizations can talk directly to the consumer, at the touch of a button. It is the perfect alternative to the discredited TV show ‘phone in’ business,” says Stephen Swan, director of Waterfront. “This enables advertisers and program makers to reconnect and build trust with their digital TV audiences…. we’re looking forward to seeing what the creative minds in television and advertising can do with TV Telephony.”
