Bear Stearns Analyst Thinks XM-Sirius Merger Will Pass

Published on July 17, 2007 | Email this article

Analyst Robert Peck of Bear Stearns says that, after having reviewed the petitions to the FCC to deny the Sirius-XM merger, he did not see any significant issues that had not been raised during the congressional hearings or the FCC process.

With that in mind, Peck believes that the merger will be approved, writes Radio Ink.

He expects that, in their response, XM and Sirius will go into detail about how the merger will benefit the public, talking about issues such as reduced pricing for basic packages, pricing for the “best of both,” a la carte possibilities, and pricing guarantees.

“We believe the merger likely will be approved on merits,” he says, but adds that if political forces are stronger than the merits of the deal, the outcome may be different.
