NBC’s ‘The Singing Bee’ Draws Big Viewers

Published on July 13, 2007 | Email this article

The Singing Bee, from NBC, was the highest-rated new summer series premiere since the debut of NBC’s Meet My Folks in July of 2002 in the adults 18-49 demo, when it aired July 10, writes Mediaweek.

It was also the best premiere on NBC among non-scripted series since the premiere of The Apprentice in January of 2004.

In total viewers, the new show was the most-watched new summer series premiere since ABC’s Dancing with the Stars premiered in 2005.

Fox is airing a nearly identical show, called Don’t Forget the Lyrics. In each show, a contestant is given a song to sing, and then is asked halfway through the song to sing the lyrics exactly as the original artist sang it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
