GE, Pearson Considering Dow Jones Bid

Published on June 18, 2007 | Email this article

General Electric is in talks with Financial Times-owner Pearson to decide whether it will team with the company to bid for Dow Jones.

One member of Dow Jones’ Bancroft family has said that GE and Pearson would “mesh better” journalistically with Dow Jones and its Wall Street Journal than Murdoch and News Corp. would, writes the Financial Times.
Analysts have said that a merger of the companies that control the Wall Street Journal, which has a larger U.S. readership, and the Financial Times, which is larger in Europe, would create a stronger group. Past discussions on this topic have fallen through because of conflicts over editorial styles and differing commercial strategies.
