Successor Speculations Soar As Rosie Departs ‘The View’

Published on May 31, 2007 | Email this article

Rosie O’Donnell has left The View earlier than planned following an on-air cat-fight with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and speculation is rampant about who will take her place.

Possible contenders include Roseanne Barr - who reportedly wants the job - Whoopi Goldberg and Bette Midler, writes Breitbart.com. Other possibles: Ricki Lake, comedians Kathy Griffin and Wanda Sykes, Oprah’s best friend Gayle King and actress Sherri Shepherd.

In Touch magazine executive editor Dan Wakeford says that Barr and Griffin would be good choices, with Griffin being “very similar to Rosie in a lot of ways.” But Wakefield also says that, after “dealing” with O’Donnell for a year, the producers of the show may prefer someone less dramatic and easier to deal with. He added that the less controversial Shepherd is popular with producers.
