American Idol’s finale on Wednesday night had the lowest turnout since its third season, but it still drew 29.5 million and remains TV’s most-watched show by far.

No other season finale has even topped 25 million, writes Media Life.

The dominant singing competition’s finale numbers have fluctuated over the years. Season one’s finale drew 22.5 million. Season two drew 38 million, season three 28.8 million, season four 30.3 million and season five 36.4 million.
The show began its sixth season back in January with a record 37.4 million viewers.

Lost’s season finale on ABC drew a 5.8 in 18-49s, up 14 percent over the previous week and its best rating in months - and one hour of the show aired opposite Idol.
