YouTube to Roll Out Ad Options/Revenue Sharing

Published on April 23, 2007 | Email this article

This week could see YouTube begin sharing ad revenue with content creators who put their videos on the site, reports Variety (via MarketingVox).

The program, which is still unconfirmed by YouTube, would reportedly offer creators pre- or post-roll advertising options. Revenue from those ads would then be divided 50/50 between YouTube and the uploader.

An important part of rolling this out will be the verification that those taking part actually own the video they’re uploading. That could tie into the Claim Your Content tool recently announced by Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Putting advertising options in place could encourage media companies to put their videos on YouTube since it there would be a way to monetize the content.
