‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ Fill in for Imus, Unhappily

Published on April 20, 2007 | Email this article

The Mike and the Mad Dog sports show is filling the slot vacated by Imus In the Morning for two weeks. The hosts were asked to do so in order to help stabilize CBS-owned WFAN - but, according to The New York Times, they’re not happy about it.

Filling in for Imus means the duo is on-air for eight hours a day, which is no mean feat even for veteran radio hosts like Mike Francesa and Chris Russo (Mad Dog). Both Francesa and Russo believe that the firing of Don Imus, following his sexist and racist comments about the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team, was unnecessary.

Francesa points out that the women on the basketball team were the only ones with the right to forgive Imus, and that they did forgive him. “Everyone else had an agenda,” he adds, and includes CBS management in that group. “This was a decision made by the corporate suits. They caved.”
