‘Life’ Magazine Dies a Third Death

Published on March 26, 2007 | Email this article

Life magazine, which Time Inc. resucitated as a newspaper supplement in late 2004, is being killed again - but it will continue to live online.

Time Inc. will run a website which will include photos from Life’s image collection; it will also publish books, writes BusinessWeek.

Time Inc. cited the decline in the newspaper industry, along with poor advertising outlook, as its reason for the decision. Life was carried in 103 newspapers. It competed in the Sunday newspaper supplement business with Parade and Gannett’s USA Weekend.
Life was originally launched in 1936 as a weekly, was suspended in 1972, was brought back in 1978, was suspended again in 2000.
