Viacom to YouTube: Remove All 100,000 Viacom Clips

Published on February 02, 2007 | Email this article

YouTube has said that it will comply with Viacom’s new request to pull more than 100,000 clips of its programming, representing some 1.2 billion video streams.

Viacom said today that YouTube and parent company Google have not followed through on the promise to provide filtering tools that would let Viacom know of its clips running, writes Broadcasting & Cable.

Last year, Viacom asked YouTube to remove clips from its Comedy Central and others, but today’s demand is far more all-encompassing, including all channels such as MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon.

YouTube prohibits users from uploading copyright infringing material and says it cooperates with rights holders to make sure such content is removed. However, the company said in a statement, “It’s unfortunate that Viacom will no longer be able to benefit from YouTube’s passionate audience which has helped to promote many of Viacom’s shows.”
