KSFO Host Blames ‘Little Time Buyers’ for Loss of Advertisers

Published on January 15, 2007 | Email this article

Controversial ABC Radio affiliate station KSFO has been losing advertisers in the wake of a flood of internet audio files that have highlighted the program’s content.

Now, according to MediaPost, it appears the station’s hosts believe that “craven little time buyers at an advertising agency someplace who have no guts whatsoever” are responsible for the loss of ads.

During a special live call-in session the station aired Friday afternoon to address host Melanie Morgan’s morning drive-time team’s controversial comments over the past couple of years, Morgan’s blame didn’t stop at media planners. She also pointed the finger at liberal bloggers, the MediaMatters website, and “Trekkies” (because the online entity who began airing online streams of KSFO’s questionable content and pointing it out to advertisers goes by the name of Spocko).

Spocko recorded the station’s rants, posted them on his Spocko’s Brain website, then brought it to the attention of advertisers. When some big-name advertisers dropped the station, Disney slapped a cease-and-desist order on Spocko’s Brain

Morgan has claimed that all but one of the departed advertisers has come back, but she has not identified them. Four confirmed advertisers have departed: Visa, MasterCard, Federal Express and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. None were available for comment late Friday.

KSFO insults Muslims and promotes torture, among other inflammatory comments, according to the article.
