Review: Season Six of ‘24’ Likely to Be Best Yet

Published on January 12, 2007 | Email this article

If the first four episodes are any indication, the sixth season of 24 will be a superb one, according to Andrew Lyons of Media Life.

The show, first launched as a long-shot in 2001, grew in popularity over five seasons and won an Emmy in its fifth, snaring Best Drama and Best Actor for Kiefer Sutherland.

But serialized dramas like 24 - and like Lost and Heroes, to which 24 paved the way - run the risk of burning out both their story lines and their audiences by a never-ending slew of cliff-hangers. Sutherland, however, has been able to sustain the believability of the character without sacrificing any of the intensity, according to Lyons.

The writers, too, have maintained the pace, and by the end of the fourth episode, at least one major character has been killed and an event has occurred which, even by 24 standards, is shocking. Lyons predicts that season six might be 24’s best yet.

The season begins with a two-night, four hour premiere on Sunday and Monday, Jan. 15 and 16.
