New York Times Co., Dow Jones Axing Staffers

Editorial staff at the Boston Globe will be cut by 19 positions when The New York Times Co. cuts 125 jobs at its New England Media Group.

The cuts will mainly be through buyouts and outsourcing. Employees with more than 10 years at the Globe and at Worcester Telegram and Gazette will be offered buyouts, writes Reuters (via Yahoo News). Offers will be made to 70 newsroom employees, whose positions will not be replaced, and to 55 employees whose positions will be outsourced.

Wall Street Journal publisher Dow Jones & Co. Inc. also plans to eliminate jobs. In advance of a restructuring, nearly two dozen jobs will be eliminated at its Newswires and Factiva divisions.
