Sirius Satellite Radio is slowly narrowing the subscriber gap with XM, adding more subscribers per quarter than its rival in four consecutive quarters.

Earlier this week, Sirius announced that it had added nearly 905,000 subscribers during the fourth quarter, bringing its total subscriber base to more than 6 million. XM said today that it finished the year with more than 7.6 million subscribers, having added more than 442,000 new subscribers in the fourth quarter, writes the AP (via Yahoo News).
Last year at this time, XM claimed a little over 6 million subscribers, while Sirius had 3.3 million.

Sirius’s Mel Karmazin has publicly stated that a merger between the two satellite companies might make sense. XM has not mentioned the possibility.
