Googles Print Initiative Soars, Set to Expand

Published on December 28, 2006 | Email this article

Google’s newspaper ad sales initiative has tripled expectations, according to a story that first appeared yesterday in the Washington Post, MediaPost writes.

With that success under its belt, the online giant plans to expand the pilot program in the coming year. After the trial period ends in Jan., Google will refine the program with the help of participating newspapers, and then will decide how best to move forward.

Participating newspapers include those published by Gannett, the Tribune Company, The New York Times Company, the Washington Post Company, and Hearst. The Journal Register’s New Haven Register signed on recently, as well.

Google has not, as yet, taken commissions on the deals, but plans to do so following the test phase.
