‘Reader’s Digest’ Agrees to $2.5B Sale

Published on November 16, 2006 | Email this article

The Reader’s Digest Association Inc. announced today that it has agreed to be purchased by Ripplewood Holdings LLC for about $2.4 billion.

Reader’s Digest is the largest-selling magazine in the world, writes UPI. It appears in 50 editions and 21 languages. Reader’s Digest Association has struggled in recent years as its direct marketing and book sales businesses have faced challenges from online booksellers such as Amazon.com, according to the Times and Democrat.
The company has seen success in other areas, however, such as with the launch of Everyday with Rachael Ray and other new offerings.
