NBC U’s Falco Takes AOL CEO Role from Miller

Published on November 16, 2006 | Email this article

Industry insiders were surprised yesterday when they learned that Randy Falco, president and chief operating officer of the NBC Universal Television Group, will be leaving to take the reins of chairman and CEO of AOL.

Falco will be leaving NBC U to take over AOL as Jonathan Miller, currently chairman and CEO, exists his post of four years, writes The Hollywood Reporter (via Mediaweek).
Industry speculation focused on Falco as likely taking the president and perhaps CEO role when it became known that he was in talks to take a senior post at AOL, but most thought that Miller would remain AOL’s highest-ranked executive.

Miller’s contract was not yet up, and it is not clear where he will be going after AOL.

Jeff Zucker, NBC U TV’s CEO, has a variety of internal replacement candidates to choose from, according to the article, but Falco’s departure will undoubtedly shake things up in a group already feeling the effects of a $750 million cost-cutting initiative.
