‘Seventeen’ Editor in Chief Calls It Quits

Published on November 08, 2006 | Email this article

Seventeen magazine’s editor in chief, Atoosa Rubenstein - who was also the founding editor of Cosmo Girl - is leaving the magazine.

Hearst Magazines says it will name a successor to Rubenstein, who is leaving the magazine to start her own company, soon, writes Mediaweek.

Rubenstein’s departure comes at a time when teen titles are cooling - Elle Girl and Teen People have both recently folded - while at the same time facing a number of new entrants to the market in recent years.

Seventeen’s paid and verified circulation was down 1.2 percent in the six months ended June 30, to 2.01 million, and ad pages were down 2.37 percent year to date through Nov. Interestingly, the category saw a gain of 7.26 percent in ad pages during the same period of time.
