Fox Business News Channel Moves Toward Reality

Published on November 07, 2006 | Email this article

News Corp. is planning to launch a business news cable channel, and the company has reached a deal with Comcast for the cable operator to carry the channel.

The new network would be a spin-off from the Fox News Channel. Comcast has agreed to carry the channel for its digital subscribers, but a final decision on whether to start the channel has still not been made, according to The New York Times.

Between Comcast’s roughly 12 million digital subscribers and the 15.5 million subscribers to DirecTV - the satellite service controlled by News Corp. - the channel could have a footprint of as many as 27.5 million subscribers.

News Corp.‘s Rupert Murdoch said last month that the new channel would launch in 2007.
