Magazine publishers have announced a series of food-related initiatives this week. Country Living magazine said that it plans to develop and distribute a Country Living Specialty Food Collection, Rachael Ray plans to open a burger joint in Manhattan and Maxim will launch a chain of branded steak restaurants.

“Everyone wants a piece of the gourmet food market,” Marcia Mogelonsky, senior research analyst at Mintel, is quoted as saying in MediaPost. A portion of the Country Living line has been available since early October, in conjunction with a soft launch at the Country Living Fair in Chicago.

The extension of a brand from a magazine to a gourmet food collection is a first, according to the article.
