Dixie Chicks Say NBC, CW Rejected Ad

Published on October 27, 2006 | Email this article

NBC and the CW networks have reportedly refused to accept commercial spots for the new Dixie Chicks documentary which opens in theaters today.

The Weinstein Co., which is distributing the Dixie Chicks film, issued a release yesterday which said that NBC rejected a spot for Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing, because it included material that “disparages President Bush,” writes Billboard.

An NBC executive declined to comment. A CW spokesperson, however, called the release “flat-out inaccurate” and in fact said the whole matter “is rather a mystery to us.”

A source says the spot will air on CBS, MTV and on local NBC, CW, ABC and Fox affiliates. It will also air on Fox News and CNN.

A MySpace blog, called Shut Up and Post, is tied to the Dixie Chicks’ documentary, and “allows members to express what freedom of speech means in today’s world.”
