CBS announced yesterday that it will make free podcasts available through iTunes and CBS Digital media sites for shows such as 60 Minutes and Guiding Light, along with news and sports programming, Mediapost reports. Once a user subscribes to a particular show, iTunes will automatically download new shows to a user’s computer to then be synced to the user’s iPod.

CBS did not say whether it will begin to distribute more than just audio through iTunes, as Apple’s new iPod can now play streaming video. Disney announced a deal with Apple last week to offer five of its shows through iTunes for download on the new video iPod.
