Sirius Says No Thanks to Stern

Published on November 17, 2005 | Email this article

Sirius Canada will not include Howard Stern’s shows when he debuts on Sirius in January, reports the Toronto Sun (via Radio Ink). Gary Slaight, the CEO of Standard Broadcasting - which co-owns Sirius Canada along with the CBC - said the CRTC, to whom Standard Broadcasting is licensed, would force the broadcasting company to take Stern down because of “standards we have to abide by in this country when you own a broadcasting license.”

In fact, Slaight said, the Stern topic was brought up by the CRTC when he applied for the license. “And the CBC obviously has a cultural mandate to be concerned with.”
