Display Ads Reach 138 Billion

Since December, online marketers have increased the number of display ads by 12 percent, running more than 138 billion ads last month, according to Nielsen//NetRatings AdRelevance, writes MediaPost.

Financial services advertisers ran the most impressions in January - 22 percent, a slight increase from 21 percent in January 2005. Telecoms purchased 19 percent, more than double last year’s amount of 8 percent. Retail goods and services bought 16 percent, one percentage point higher than last year.

Email sites garnered 35 percent of January display ads, making email the favored destination for marketers, writes BtoB. The bulk of the ads appeared on Yahoo and MSN which garnered 22 percent and 10 percent respectively.
