Fox’s ‘24’ Sees Growing Returns in Fifth Season

Published on March 02, 2006 | Email this article

Breaking the norm of fifth-year shows experiencing a ratings slowdown, Fox’s 24, now in its fifth season, has ratings up 16 percent over last season, averaging a 5.8 in adults 18-49 in its regular timeslot Monday at 9 p.m., Media Life writes.

Strategic scheduling of 24 by Fox is reason for the boost. The show was primed for a big mid-January return, and the season premiere aired on a Sunday after a highly rated NFC playoff game. Fox also only airs the first-run episode in sequence, opting out of showing reruns until the season ends.

Weaker competition, from shows like CBS’s Everybody Loves Raymond, and reruns being aired on cable have also helped the show increase its audience.
