Electronics Retailers Support HD Radio Roll-Out

Published on April 10, 2006 | Email this article

Crutchfield, Tweeter and ABC Warehouse/Detroit launched multi-tiered promotional campaigns for HD Radio yesterday, and are adding more HD Radio receivers to their inventories, Radio Ink writes.

The retailers will use commercial inventory donated by members of the HD Digital Radio Alliance to launch commercials that promote the campaigns intended to teach consumers about the technology. The retailers’ efforts coincide with the Alliance’s second phase of its $200 million on-air ad campaign.

“We expect these developments to end the lengthy waiting lists for receivers that consumers are currently experiencing,” said HD Digital Radio Alliance CEO Peter Ferrara. “Consumers want HD digital radio programming, and smart retailers want to get ahead of the curve in providing it.”

“The HD Digital Radio Alliance was formed to accelerate the roll-out of HD digital radio in the consumer marketplace, a process that happens by forging strong partnerships with retailers, manufacturers and automakers,” Ferrara said. “The commitment of these retailers is a major stride forward in fulfilling our mission ahead of schedule.”
