National television came ahead of newspapers and public radio as the most trusted news source, according to 82 percent of the 10,230 adults questioned in a worldwide survey on trust conducted by GlobeScan on behalf of Reuters, the BBC and The Media Center, in 10 countries, writes Reuters. The internet is on the rise as a trustworthy medium as well, especially among the young participants.

“National TV is still the most trusted news source by a wide margin, although the internet is gaining ground among the young,” said Doug Miller, president of the British research firm GlobeScan, writes Yahoo.

Without any prompting, respondents cited the following TV networks as the most trusted in their respected countries: 59 percent of Egyptians choose Al Jazeera; 52 percent of Brazilians said Rede Globo; 32 percent of British respondent said the BBC; and 11 percent of Americans choose Fox News.

Also, the poll confirmed that younger generations are going online for media, as 19 percent of the 18-24 demo said the internet was their most important news source - more than double the 9 percent overall. According to Dean Wright - managing editor of consumer media for Reuters - blogging is now what newspapers where before people started accepting them as fact.

“The jury is still out on blogs,” Miller added. “Just as many people distrust them as trust them.
