Published on September 13, 2006 | Email this article

XM Satellite Radio has made a number of announcements about new hosts to join the satellite radio network in recent months. Perhaps the most high-profile of these is yesterday’s announcement that Maya Angelou will host a weekly show for the Oprah & Friends channel, which debuts Sept. 25 on XM channel 156.

Hailed as one of the most influential voices in contemporary literature, Angelou will “provide a glimpse inside her phenomenal life experiences,” and “will inspire listeners with her wisdom, compassion, and understanding on topics spanning race, sex, age, and religion,” XM writes.

Angelou has written countless bestselling books, including her autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and the Pulitzer Prize-nominated collection of poetry, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘Fore I Diiie.
