Saints’ Return to Superdome Shatters ESPN Records

Published on September 27, 2006 | Email this article

It may come as no surprise that the Monday Night Football match between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons - in the Saints’ emotional return to the New Orleans Superdome - shattered ESPN records.

The game marked the third week in a row that ESPN broke its own records for a telecast of any kind. The first week of Monday Night Football drew nearly 9.2 million households, while the second week drew a then-record 9.8 million. Monday’s Saints game drew an audience of 10,850,000 households, the highest-rated program on any network Monday night, broadcast or cable, writes MediaPost.

The Saints were displaced from their Superdome home after Hurricane Katrina, when the stadium became home to flood victims.
